Tschernobog source release under MIT license

Postby DysDaemoN » Mon Jul 04, 2016 2:21 pm

Greetings.

I just registered to inform you that Brightlord has expressed his will to release the source for Tchernobog (code and project resources) under MIT license. However, he does not intend to host and manage the repository for the project. Thence, he is looking for persons with experience on that front to do it.

Links:
http://awake.diablo1.eu.org/brightlord- ... t1430.html
http://awake.diablo1.eu.org/tchernobog- ... t1446.html

It is my humble opinion that letting this chance slip by, along with the source for that mod, because of lack of anyone's initiative to go through the trouble of obtaining the code from Brightlord and maintaining such a project, would be a real shame for the whole Diablo 1 community. Because despite its shortcomings, the Tchernobog mod sports numerous features which truly elevate the game, both UI and content- wise.

Seeing that you guys already host a similar project, seem well-versed in Diablo code, appear willing to contribute to its community and have already been contacted by Brightlord, I consider it most appropriate that such a project should be managed by you. Perhaps you could even merge the two projects (Freeablo and Tschernobog) along the road, ending up with a superior result.

I am therefore expressing my plead towards you, that you contact Brightlord, request the Tchernobog source and host the project so that it may flourish.

Thank you for reading.

Edit: Typos

Hey, so I've actually been in contact with brightlord since my last comment, and I have the source for tchernobog. It won't be released as-is but will be used as reference, and possibly have prices merged into the freeablo codebase.I've actually been meaning to do a blog post on this but you beat me to it :p

Hey!

Great news! Keep us informed of your progress and future plans.

Any chance of a "Tchernobog bugfix edition" before great improvements in freeablo start rolling in? 8-)
